Connecticut State Law demands that parents/guardians require their children to attend school regularly during the hours and terms the school is in session. At New Beginnings, classroom learning is meaningful and essential so time lost from class is irredeemable. A student should not be absent from school unless it is absolutely necessary with the parent’s or guardian’s knowledge and consent.
To Report Absences:
Parents should call 203-384-2897 and leave a message before 7:00AM when a child will be absent for any reason. However, in order for any absence to be excused, a written note must follow. Absences will be marked as excused once the main office receives a written note.
Parents or guardians may excuse up to 9 school days with a written note. Any further absences will require a doctor’s note or will be marked as unexcused.
Consequences for Unexcused Absences:
4 unexcused absences in one month or 10 unexcused absences in a school year result in Truancy. Truant students are reported to the State of Connecticut and a referral to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) may be required.
Student attendance and tardies are recorded daily and become part of students’ permanent records. Due to poor attendance, students may also be subject to retention in order to acquire the necessary skills for promotion.
