NBFA Recipe of the Month (January 2025) Turkish-Style Red Lentil Soup

New Beginnings Family Academy, along with friends at Whole Foods Market and funder Whole Kids Foundation, have teamed up to share some delicious recipes that promote nutrition, wellness, and fun collaboration in the kitchen.

“We hope you enjoy trying these monthly recipes that support healthy eating,” said NBFA Director and CEO Ronelle Swagerty. “This is a great way for friends and family to make smart food choices together.”

This month, NBFA is happy to share a recipe for the Turkish-Style Red Lentil Soup!

Whole Foods Market Turkish-Style Red Lentil Soup

This version of the classic Turkish soup is simple to make and packed with flavor.

Start by bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, then add the green beans and cook for around 5-7 minutes. Meanwhile, heat oil in a small pot and cook shallots until golden brown.

Start by combining your ingredients in a large pot and bringing to a boil. Cook until tender and blend until creamy. For the full recipe, click here.

Tips From Chef Todd

Each month, NBFA Chef and Food Service Supervisor Todd Daigle will provide healthy tips on the recipe to give more options for taste or dietary restrictions.

Don’t Have Cumin or Cayenne Pepper? Swap out with paprika.

Want to Reduce Sodium? In addition to using low-sodium broth, also use only half the broth from the recipe and substitute the rest with water.
